STEWARDSHIP

ABSC Foundation

The Alfred Street Baptist Church (ASBC) Foundation was formed in 2002 as a separate 501 (c) 3 charitable organization. It is managed by a board of directors, appointed by the Pastor, Chair, Board of Deacons and the Chair, Board of Trustees. The foundation provides academic scholarships to select graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated a financial need and have maintained high academic performance.

Since its first awards in 2007, the foundation has awarded over $600,000 to local area students. For school year 2013, the foundation awarded $138,000 in scholarships. These awards included 25 new scholarships and renewals for 3 existing students.

Foundation Scholarships:

Millennium Scholarships: Millennium Scholarships are the premier awards of the foundation. These awards total $20,000 over a 4 year period. Millennium scholarships support the foundation’s intent to support its scholarship recipients over the normal course of their under-graduate study.

Legacy Scholarships:

Legacy scholarships are established and funded annually by individuals, families or separate organizations and entities. Minimum funding for a Legacy Scholarship is $1,000.00 and the duration of the scholarship is dictated by the donor. Most Legacy Scholarships carry specific award criteria (e.g. science, technology, engineering, math majors (STEM); nursing majors; majors in teaching or Arts and Humanities; attendance at HBCU; etc).

The foundation looks to increase its annual award of Legacy Scholarships and works continuously to recruit Legacy donors. Interested Legacy Scholarship donors can view and complete the “Legacy Scholarship” application on this website. Individuals or organizations interested in contributing to the ASBC Foundation may do so directly via “Pay Pal” (see Donation button) or through payroll deduction at your work place during the annual Combined Federal Campaign (CFC # 47662). Non-federal employees can also contribute via United Way (United Way # 9609).
