Awana

The Awana Ministry serves children ages 2 – 18.
Tuesdays, 6:15 – 8:00 p.m. (Dinner served at 5:00 p.m., with a donation of $3.00)

Awana is a Bible-based, Christ-centered program for families and children. Awana stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed, and comes from the Bible verse II Timothy 2:15: “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” The goal of Awana is to reach boys and girls with the gospel of Christ, and to train them to serve Him. In this ministry, children grow in their relationships with God and each other in six based clubs, built around a three-part program.

CAYA – Come As You Are

Come As You Are (CAYA) is a unique worship experience that focuses on the issues, concerns and struggles we encounter daily. While service is relevant for individuals in their twenties and thirties, CAYA is for everyone! Attendees need not be a member of Alfred Street Baptist Church or any other church—  simply Come As You Are. Worship and God’s Word come alive with Pastor Wesley, a band and the CAYA Praise Team. Come early for food and fellowship, then stay to nourish your spirit with worship!

Children’s Church

Location: Multipurpose room
Classes meet first, third and fourth Sunday, 11:00 a.m. and the Saturday, 6:00 p.m.worship hour. (September – June)

Children’s Church provides age appropriate worship services for children ages 4 -12. The mission of this ministry is to make available opportunities for children to praise and worship God as well as learn about God and come to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. In addition, fellowship opportunities are provided along with follow-up sermon activities, and mission outreach activities that are all designed to promote the spiritual growth of children. Children are encouraged to participate in all worship service components, including, but not limited to: music, dance, scripture reading, prayers, and ushering.

 

 

Christian Education

Christian Education is to offer classes throughout the church calendar year that are biblically based, real and relevant in meeting the needs of the congregants to mature in their relationship with God, with others. The goal is to “Build Disciples to Win the world for Christ.”

 

 

Intercessory Prayer Ministry

Join us for prayer in the Adkins Chapel on Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 a.m., Wednesday at noon, Saturday at 7:00a.m. We meet on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. to pray for healing and employment. Join us for prayer on the telephone every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday starting at 9:00 p.m.  The telephone number is 1-605-475-4350 (The access code is 412 632). In the event of inclement weather, we will meet and pray using the telephone conference call line.

John O. Peterson Library

Open Sundays, after 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship services, Tuesdays, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., and by appointment.

The JOP Library honors former pastor, Dr. John Otis Peterson, Sr. and provides access to print, audio-visual and online resources that support church ministries and the spiritual growth and development of members.  The library is located behind the choir loft in room 203. The JOP library team is available to assist church members, ministries, committees, and staff with research and other information needs.

 

 

Praying With the Pastor

Praying With the Pastor
Praying With the Pastor is a monthly prayer gathering designed to help foster deeper relationships with God and community. One Monday each month, worshippers gather for an unscripted, unrestrained time in prayer and worship. Praying with the Pastor is organized by PULSE (Pray Unite Lead Serve Empower).

Saturday and Sunday School classes give all ages the opportunity to study and discuss God’s Word. Join other disciples to learn and grow through His Word.

 

 

Tutorial Ministry

The Tutorial Ministry serves students ages in school grades 2–-12.
Monday, 7:00- 9:00 p.m. (A light meal is served at 6:30 p.m. for students and tutors)

The purpose of the Tutorial Ministry is to assist youth of the Alfred Street Baptist Church and surrounding communities in enhancing self-esteem, motivation, study habits, and to encourage students to take responsibility for “learning,” which is commensurate with their ability to perform in academic settings. We incorporate the motto of Pray, Prepare and Perform through weekly student-led devotional. Participants must attend every Monday in accordance with the Alexandria School calendar for the entire academic calendar year October – June.

 

 

Vacation Bible School

Monday– Friday, one week in June every year

Vacation Bible School (VBS) provides a unique approach to learning the Bible and retaining an understanding of Godly principles presented in the Word of God. The programs of VBS increase excitement and participation in the church, evidenced by the consistent growth in attendance and resources used since 1999. VBS allows an environment for early spiritual growth, produces a great opportunity for outreach, and gives members of the Alfred Street Baptist Church a greater opportunity for fellowship.
